Don't you just love dancers? Such grace and energy I only wish I could dance half as good. I can probably carry out a step or two but I'm a little too stiff for it hahah!
So we didn't know what to expect when we were invited by my former boss to visit the dance studio of her sister over at Imus, Cavite. My former boss is quite a good dancer too (I guess it runs in the blood) and she just kept raving at us how fun it was to have dance classes every weekends, so we eventually gave it a try. I didn't realize that we'd actually have alot of fun!
Lovely Belly Dances conducts Bellydance, Zumba (with licensed instructors),and Yoga classes. It's a cozy studio, the size of a classroom, with a huge dance mirror and it's own restroom. There's a very comfortable feel to it. We got to attend one of the Belly dance classes and it was cool to see women from ages 25-50 fixing each others costumes and make up. They were about to perform some of their pieces that day. These are housewives, career women, and single ladies who have seemed to have formed a bond of sisterhood as they prepared for their performance, and I guess this is one of the first few things you really enjoy when you attend regular sessions like this. Beyond dancing, you get to share experiences as a mother, a wife, or simply as a woman, to fellow sisters like you.
At first it was just chatting and laughing, but when the music played I saw these women transform before my eyes. There was a happy sparkle in their eyes as they started dancing and moving around the studio. I think being able to dance gives you a different kind of confidence in yourself, something that housewives tend to forget when they're stuck at home taking care of the kids. And I saw this in those women that day, something that sincerely made me smile. Sure not everyone really followed the steps, but they didn't need to! The point was to capture the essence of dance and to really have fun!
There were even two pregnant ladies dancing like they didn't mind, at first we got worried to see them moviing around a lot but we learned that bellydancing is actually beneficial for women to aid them in childbirth. The circular motion of bellydance helps the baby to get into the right position prior labor and helps to strengthen the pelvic bones and other muscles that are used during childbirth.
It was a party! There were group dances (Yep I joined thank goodness there isn't a photo hahah), and there were also individual performances from Ms. Lovely's students who have gone to perform in hotels, events, and even internationally, sosyal huh? But I realized you don't really need to be a dancer to make the most out of it because it's really more about moving, learning to let go of your inhibitions, and just really enjoying it.
At the center of all this fun is the leader of the pack, dance instructor Lovelynn "Lovely" Rodriguez. Most dancers we know are graceful, but not all of them GLOW. When the beat plays Ms. Lovely transforms into a star. It's a delight to just watch and see her dance because she just enjoys it so much it's all over her aura! She smiles, grooves, charms, and seduces. Watching all that energy can already convince one on the beauty of dance without the need for words.
Ms. Lovely actually has a strong background on a wide variety of dance like jazz, classical, modern ballet, contemporary, cardio-striptease, Latin dances, cheer dancing, and hip hop, making her a well rounded dancer. She's quite more popular for belly dance but is also teaching Zumba and yoga. On the side she also teaches Japanese in FEU-East Asia, so Japanese ladies can also drop by and learn with ease!
Dancing is great for fitness, improvement in self-image and confidence, posture, and many more. But other than that, it's also a great way to meet people and make new friends, and who knows, maybe even make a career out of it! It's a great hobby for mommies because it visibly makes women happier, and I really believe that happy mothers make for happy families.

DeleteI was her student and I should say that Lovely inspires me to continue loving the art. She was my mentor since 2008. I just once said to her, "Someday, you will have your own studio." True enough, 2 years ago, Ms. Lovely's Dance and Arts Studio was created. Once you've try her teaching, you will not notice that ypu keep coming back to learn new steps because as Lovely dances you got infected. You want to learn her techniques and the drama within her every move. She also gives great readings, videos about her craft and get to know the world of bellydance. And this a plus plus being her student. So if you want to prove yourself, discover how you will be transformed. See you around!
